Based in Haydock, the Senior Hire Controller is a key operational leader at the front line of sales, customer service, and depot coordination. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the hire process from order to delivery and collection, while mentoring and supporting the hire desk team to deliver exceptional customer service and operational efficiency.
Relationship building and leadership are the keys to success, as you will be the go-to person for complex queries, high-value accounts, and operational challenges. Working closely with stock teams, drivers, engineers, and depot management, you’ll ensure that our customers’ needs are met on time, every time.
What you’ll be doing:
Leading and mentoring the hire desk team to deliver outstanding customer service and sales performance.
Managing the full hire process, including complex and high-value orders.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with key customers and suppliers.
Overseeing day-to-day coordination between departments to ensure minimal delays in fulfilling customer requirements.
Monitoring hire desk performance metrics and driving continuous improvement.
Supporting the depot manager with operational planning, team development, and training.
Acting as the escalation point for customer or operational issues.
Contributing to the delivery of our ESG Strategy – Decade to Deliver.
What we’re looking for:
Proven experience as a Hire Controller, ideally in a senior or supervisory capacity.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to lead, motivate, and coach team members.
Adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Commercial awareness and the ability to identify sales opportunities.
Full driving licence.
Industry knowledge (tool, plant, or specialist equipment hire) or similar operational/sales background.
