Power the next stage of your career with Speedy

An exciting internal opportunity has arisen within our Power & Energy business for a Technical Sales Manager to lead, develop and inspire our National Account Managers while helping drive the continued growth of our technical power and energy offering.

This is a key leadership position combining technical expertise, commercial strategy, people leadership and customer engagement. We're looking for someone who can bring together strong technical knowledge and a commercial mindset, developing a high-performing sales team while identifying and converting opportunities across major projects and key customer accounts.

Working closely with the National Sales Director, you'll play an important role in delivering our revenue, margin and growth ambitions while ensuring our customers receive a consistent, technically credible and market-leading proposition.

What you'll be doing

As Technical Sales Manager, you'll:

  • Lead, coach and motivate the National Account Managers to achieve and exceed revenue, margin and growth targets.
  • Create a high-performance culture built around accountability, collaboration, customer service and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, consultants, contractors and strategic partners.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for key national accounts, helping resolve challenges and ensuring consistently high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Drive pipeline management, forecasting accuracy and sales performance across the team.
  • Identify new market and commercial opportunities and support the team in converting these into sustainable, long-term customer relationships.
  • Work with the Sales Director on commercial negotiations, including contracts, pricing and service agreements.
  • Provide technical leadership across HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear and renewable energy assets.
  • Support the development of maintenance strategies designed to improve equipment reliability and availability.
  • Provide technical input into commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications and technical documentation to ensure appropriate solutions are delivered.
  • Provide technical expertise for customer proposals, tenders and major project opportunities.
  • Manage and support technical projects from planning through to execution, ensuring delivery against agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Ensure technical and commercial activity complies with relevant industry standards, health and safety requirements, environmental obligations and company processes.
  • Manage technical risks and support the implementation of appropriate mitigation plans.

Bringing technical expertise to our customers

You'll be expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge of power generation and electrical distribution systems, enabling you to understand complex customer requirements, specify appropriate solutions and provide credible technical advice.

You'll also keep ahead of developments within the energy market, particularly emerging technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hydrogen (H₂) solutions, understanding both their technical application and commercial potential.

Leading and developing our people

A major part of this role is developing the capability of the team.

You'll coach, mentor and support colleagues to strengthen both their technical and commercial knowledge, creating an environment where people are encouraged to learn, collaborate and perform at their best.

You'll monitor performance, provide regular feedback and ensure the team has the knowledge and support required to confidently represent our Power & Energy proposition in the marketplace.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who can combine technical credibility with strong commercial and leadership capability.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong technical knowledge of power generation and electrical distribution.
  • Knowledge of HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear and associated power infrastructure.
  • An understanding of emerging energy technologies, including BESS and hydrogen solutions.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify and maximise profitable opportunities.
  • Experience of sales, account management or business development within a technical environment.
  • Proven leadership, coaching and people-development capability.
  • Experience managing sales pipelines, forecasts, KPIs and performance.
  • Strong customer relationship and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The confidence to support commercial negotiations, proposals and tenders.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple customers, projects and competing priorities.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across sales, operational and technical teams.
  • A strong focus on safety, compliance, customer experience and delivering results.

Ready for your next challenge?

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone already within the business who wants to take the next step into a senior technical sales leadership role, influence the future direction of our Power & Energy proposition and help us capitalise on opportunities within a rapidly evolving energy market.

If you have the technical knowledge, commercial drive and leadership capability to make an impact, we'd love to hear from you.
