Lifting Inspection Engineer
Lloyds British | Plymouth
Monday to Friday | 39 hours per week | Permanent
With a heritage spanning more than 200 years, Lloyds British is one of the UK’s leading providers of lifting and equipment inspection services.
Now part of the Speedy Group, Lloyds British combines over two centuries of specialist engineering knowledge with the training, development and career opportunities available across one of the UK’s leading specialist services businesses.
The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lifting Inspection Engineer to join our team in Plymouth, working 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Whether you already have experience within the lifting equipment industry or have a strong engineering or mechanical background and are looking to develop your career within inspection, we’d be interested in hearing from you.
This is a varied, hands-on engineering role where you’ll inspect, test and certify lifting equipment, helping our customers ensure their equipment is safe, compliant and ready for use.
You won’t be doing the same thing every day. Alongside lifting equipment inspections, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in load testing, pull testing, occasional destructive testing, rigging loft activities and the inspection of a wide range of lifting accessories.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Lifting Inspection Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:
- Carrying out inspections and examinations of lifting equipment and accessories
- Completing load testing and pull testing
- Undertaking occasional destructive testing where required
- Inspecting lifting accessories and associated equipment
- Supporting activities within the rigging loft
- Identifying defects and ensuring equipment meets the required safety and compliance standards
- Producing accurate inspection documentation and reports
- Providing customers with a professional, knowledgeable and responsive service
- Working safely and in accordance with Lloyds British procedures and relevant industry standards
- Developing your technical knowledge through ongoing training and professional development
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a practical approach, strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in engineering and inspection.
Experience within the lifting equipment or testing industry would be an advantage, but we’re also interested in candidates with transferable engineering skills who are keen to develop.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Experience within lifting equipment, inspection, testing or a similar engineering environment
- LEEA qualifications or experience – desirable
- An engineering or mechanical qualification such as an NVQ or City & Guilds – desirable but not essential
- A practical understanding of mechanical equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally
- A positive, customer-focused approach
- A willingness to learn and develop your technical expertise
- A full UK driving licence
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and wants to build a career within a highly respected specialist engineering business.
Training & Career Development
We believe in developing our people.
You’ll have access to a comprehensive range of technical training and development opportunities, from manufacturer training through to advanced LEEA courses, helping you build your knowledge, qualifications and long-term career within the industry.
As part of the wider Speedy Group, you’ll also benefit from our Career Line of Sight, providing a clear understanding of the opportunities available for progression and growth across the business.
What We Offer
In addition to joining an established and respected engineering business, you’ll receive:
- 26 days' holiday, plus bank holidays
- Company pension scheme
- Life assurance
- Voluntary Health Cash Plan
- Opportunities for training, development and career progression
- Access to manufacturer and LEEA training
- 95% discount across the Speedy brand
- My Staff Shop, offering discounts across a wide range of retailers and suppliers
- Green Commute Initiative cycle-to-work scheme
- PAM Employee Assistance Programme, providing free and confidential wellbeing, legal and financial support

If you’re an experienced Lifting Inspection Engineer — or have a strong engineering background and are ready to develop your career within specialist inspection — we’d like to hear from you.
Apply today and build your engineering career with Lloyds British in Plymouth.
