We’re looking for a Hire Desk Controller to join our team in Tamworth. This is a vital role at the heart of our depot operations, combining sales, customer service, and operational coordination. You’ll be the link between our customers, drivers, engineers, and stock teams – making sure every order is delivered on time and every customer has a smooth experience.
What You’ll Do – Day-to-Day Duties
No two days are the same in this fast-paced, customer-focused role. Your typical responsibilities will include:
Customer Contact & Relationship Building
Acting as the first point of contact for customer queries via phone, email, or in person.
Understanding customer needs and providing expert product knowledge to recommend the right hire solutions.
Building strong, long-term relationships with regular and new customers to encourage repeat business.
Managing the Hire Process
Taking incoming orders accurately and efficiently.
Creating hire contracts on the internal system and ensuring all required details are correct.
Coordinating delivery and collection schedules, working closely with drivers to minimise delays.
Monitoring ongoing hires to ensure equipment is returned on time and in good condition.
Stock & Equipment Coordination
Liaising with stock teams to ensure equipment is available, safe, and ready to go.
Organising off-hired equipment to be checked, repaired, or prepared for the next customer.
Working with engineers to prioritise urgent repairs or maintenance so customer orders are not delayed.
Problem Solving & Issue Resolution
Managing customer complaints or issues calmly and professionally, finding the best solutions.
Handling last-minute changes, such as urgent hire requests or delivery schedule adjustments.
Ensuring accurate records are kept for reporting and audit purposes.
Sales & Upselling
Promoting additional products and services, ensuring customers get the most value from their hire.
Meeting and exceeding sales and service KPIs set for the depot.
This is a desk-based role that requires constant communication across departments and a proactive, organised approach to keep things running smoothly.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed as a Hire Desk Controller, you’ll need:
Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Adaptability to handle a fast-paced and changing environment.
A full UK driving licence.
Previous experience in the hire industry or a sales/operations role is highly desirable.
A willingness to learn and develop through ongoing training.
