We have an exciting internal opportunity for a Head of Training Academy to lead our Academy team and shape the delivery of technical, competency and mandatory training across the business.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring our colleagues have the skills, competence and training required to work safely, effectively and compliantly.
Working closely with the HSSEQ Director, Managing Directors, senior and operational leaders, the wider HSSEQ team and support functions, you will ensure the Academy continues to respond to the needs of the business while maintaining the highest standards of safety, technical competence and compliance.
What You'll Be Doing
As Head of Training Academy, you will:
- Lead, manage and develop the Academy team, ensuring an effective, high-performing training function.
- Plan and coordinate technical and mandatory training activity to meet business requirements.
- Effectively utilise our technical trainers and TAQA assessor resources to maximise training capacity and efficiency.
- Manage and develop competency frameworks across business-specific and support functions.
- Monitor training quality, compliance and performance against key measures.
- Ensure courses and training materials remain fit for purpose and reflect changes in legislation, technical requirements and internal standards.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to trainers and stakeholders across the business.
- Take ownership of the Training Management System (TMS), developing its capability to meet organisational needs.
- Develop engaging materials to communicate key health and safety messages through our learning platforms.
- Drive mandatory training compliance across the business, identifying gaps and implementing practical solutions.
- Manage relationships with CITB, including levy requirements and returns.
- Manage relationships with external training providers, accreditation bodies and agencies.
- Lead and support succession and competency planning activities.
- Manage Academy budgets, forecasting and expenditure, ensuring training is delivered in a cost-effective way.
- Measure training effectiveness and return on investment (ROI).
- Develop our digital and e-learning offering, including management and leadership development.
- Work with subject matter experts across the business to design and deliver high-impact learning interventions.
- Ensure the Academy provides an excellent internal customer experience.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced leader who combines technical credibility, strong commercial awareness and a passion for developing capability across the business.
You'll ideally bring:
- NEBOSH NGC or equivalent.
- Experience of leading technical training, competence or learning activity.
- Strong knowledge of training compliance and competency management.
- The ability to lead, coach and develop a high-performing team.
- Strong analytical skills with experience of producing and interpreting high-quality management information.
- Experience of learning or training management systems, ideally PeopleFluent LMS.
- Strong digital skills and the ability to develop engaging training content and materials.
- Excellent planning, organisation and prioritisation skills.
- Experience of budget management and an understanding of training ROI.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Confidence presenting and communicating to a range of audiences.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The credibility and influencing skills to build strong relationships with operational and senior leaders.
