Based in our Glasgow depot, the Electrical Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of our electrical hire fleet. You will carry out electrical fault-finding, repairs, servicing and assembly across a wide range of industrial equipment, including power tools, lighting towers, transformers, distribution boards, lifting equipment and more. Your expertise directly supports customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, ensuring equipment is always safe, compliant and ready for hire.


About the Role – What You Will Be Doing

This role involves hands-on electrical engineering work across varied equipment used in construction, infrastructure, industrial and commercial environments. Your responsibilities will include:

Key Electrical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on 110V, 230V and 415V equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely and to high quality standards.

  • Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance on electrical hire equipment, including PAT testing, condition checks and component replacement.

  • Assemble, configure and test electrical systems, such as temporary power distribution units, festoon lighting, transformers, cabling systems and site lighting products.

  • Carry out electrical inspections, including functionality checks, insulation tests, continuity checks and compliance verification in line with regulations.

  • Ensure all electrical repairs meet required standards, such as BS 7671, PUWER, LOLER (where applicable) and Speedy safety policies.

  • Monitor and test lifting and powered equipment, including electric hoists, winches and powered access tools, ensuring full operational safety.

  • Complete electrical safety documentation, including test certificates, repair logs and system updates.

  • Support workshop teams by identifying recurring electrical issues and suggesting improvements, replacements or preventative measures.

  • Prepare hire-ready equipment, ensuring each item is tested, clean, fully functional and compliant before leaving the depot.

  • Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers, service teams and hire desk colleagues to prioritise repairs and meet customer deadlines.

  • Promote safe working practices, ensuring workshop electrical standards, isolation procedures and risk assessments are followed.


What You Need

  • Previous experience working with 110V systems and above (experience within the hire industry highly beneficial)

  • Strong electrical diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with electrical regulations and safe working guidelines

  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and collaborate within a team
